Cowgirl Soccer All-Time Team: Midfielder
July 03, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
Nikki Wojtowicz, 2001-04
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, both of whom have been with the program since its inception and built it into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top players in Cowgirl soccer history. We're revealing a new member of the top 11 daily on www.okstate.com, and today we highlight the last of our three Cowgirl midfielders.
Nikki Wojtowicz – Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada (2001-04)
Wojtowicz' collegiate career ended 11 years ago, but she still holds the Big 12 Conference career record with 51 assists — a total that's also 24 more than any other player in OSU history. Â
A native of Canada, Wojtowicz played in 81 games during her four seasons, and along with the record number of assists, tallied 12 goals. Her 75 career points ranks fifth on OSU's all-time list, and she is tied for the school record for assists in a game with three, which she achieved three times during her time in Stillwater.
As a junior in 2003, Wojtowicz led the Big 12 with 17 assists, the second-highest single-season total in conference history. That season also saw her record one of the most memorable goals in program history when in the finals of the Big 12 Championship she found the back of the net on a free kick with just 1:12 remaining in the second overtime to give the Cowgirls a 3-2 win over Missouri. Wojtowicz' score secured the first conference title in OSU history and earned the program its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
Colin Carmichael on Nikki Wojtowicz: "Nikki Wojtowicz, the assist master — all-time leader in the Big 12 in assists says it all. She could deliver a ball on the money from set plays or in the run of play and could strike a very clean ball with either foot. On corner kicks and free kicks, we were probably the most dangerous we ever were as a program when she was here — in the time she was here, it seemed like we scored on more set plays because of how good she was."
