1996 Oklahoma State Cowgirl Soccer Team
Cowgirl Soccer Top 20 Moments, 1996-2014
July 20, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, who each have been with the program since its inception and served stints as head coaches to help build the program into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top 20 moments in Cowgirl soccer history. Over the next month, we'll reveal their list (which is in no particular order) daily on www.okstate.com.
Â
Aug. 30, 1996 – First game and first win in program history – Oklahoma State 8, Oklahoma Christian 0
Â
Things got started in winning fashion for Oklahoma State soccer in 1996 as the Cowgirls recorded an 8-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian in the first game in program history. The game was played on an OSU intramural field, Willis Field, with 365 fans in attendance.
Â
Sally Holmes holds the distinction of scoring the first goal in OSU history as just over two minutes into the match, she found the back of the net on an assist from Kellie White.
Â
Holmes also added OSU's final goal of the game to go along with a pair of assists, while Emily Morgan and Robin Rampey joined her in recording two-goal efforts. Also on the list of Cowgirl goal scorers were Chrissie Hodel and White.
Â
Combining for the shutout in goal for the Cowgirls was starter Chrystal Emerson and Denise Tumlinson. The duo recorded five saves between them.
Â
Colin Carmichael: "Karen and I came here and threw together a mix-match of players to put a team out on the field. We played out at the Willis rec field — it was sloping, the field wasn't level and there was no stadium or anything. I actually remember those days pretty fondly. There were a lot of great kids back then. We obviously played a team that was down a level from us, but it was just great to get on the board and get everything running."
