AD Franch, 2009-12
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, both of whom have been with the program since its inception and built it into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top players in Cowgirl soccer history. We'll reveal the top 11 daily on www.okstate.com over the next two weeks, and we'll start in goal.
Â
Adrianna "AD" Franch – Salina, Kan. (2009-12)
Franch's list of accolades is quite lengthy, and she anchored the defense on some of the top teams in OSU history. In her four seasons in Stillwater, she played in 89 games and spent over 8,000 minutes in the net. She recorded a school-record 38 shutouts and ranks second on the OSU career list with 325 saves.
Â
Franch was the third All-American in OSU history and was a three-time All-America selection (2010-12), including a pair of first-team selections, as well as a two-time Hermann Trophy semifinalist (2010-11). She was also a four-time All-Big 12 Conference First team performer, the first player in Cowgirl history and only the seventh in Big 12 history to achieve that feat.
Â
During Franch's career, the Cowgirls made three appearances in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, and she starred on back-to-back NCAA Elite Eight teams in 2010 and 2011 that both finished the year ranked No. 5 in the final national polls. OSU also won three Big 12 championships with Franch in goal.
Â
As a junior in 2011, Franch racked up a school-record 12 shutouts for an OSU team that finished with a 22-2-2 mark. She ranked second in the NCAA that season in goals against average (0.348) and third in save percentage (0.92).
Â
The first player in OSU history to make a United States National Team roster, Franch was a first-round draft pick of the NWSL's Western New York Flash in 2013.
Â
Colin Carmichael on AD Franch: "AD came in as one of the best athletes, goalkeeper or field player, that we'd ever had, and she really developed into arguably the best collegiate goalkeeper in the country during her four years. Then going on to the pros and getting in with the full U.S. National Team has been great to see.
Â
"The legacy she left for our goalkeepers, she set the bar really high — anybody coming behind her has big shoes to fill."
Â
The following video was produced by the Big 12 during Franch's junior season in 2011.
