Record Number Of Cowgirls Named Academic All-Big 12

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State placed a program record and league best 15 student-athletes on the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Soccer Team, including 14 first teamers, it was announced by the conference office today.

OSU's 15 Academic All-Big 12 selections are the most in program history, topping the 14 for the Cowgirls in both 2009 and 2011. The 14 first-team honorees is also an OSU record, besting the 13 Cowgirl first teamers in 2010 and 2011.

Highlighting OSU's selections is a senior class that includes four Cowgirls earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team accolades for the third time in their careers. Achieving that feat were Kelsey Bass, Madison Mercado, Lauren Reyes and Allie Stephenson. Fellow senior Delaney Kiely earned her second first-team selection while she was also a second-teamer in 2014.

Also making her second-career appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team is Haley Maurice, who previously earned that distinction in 2014, while 2015 marks the first selection for Madeline Wood, who was also named to the first team.

A pair of OSU juniors – Courtney Dike and Natalie Calhoun – earned a spot on the first team for a second-straight year.

Four Cowgirl sophomores – Anna Beffer, Holly Brehmer, Michela Ongaro and Laurene Tresfield – earned their first-career Academic All-Big 12 honors, with each named to the first team, while redshirt freshman Lana Duke was also a first-team selection.

Sophomore Abbey Bright was the lone Cowgirl on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.

The 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team is made up of 102 student-athletes, with 83 on the first team and 19 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 grade point average or better, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12 honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the previous two semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
