Cowgirls Win In Ames
October 16, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
AMES, Iowa – Oklahoma State ran its unbeaten streak to five Friday night with a 1-0 win over Iowa State at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
Â
The win was the first in Big 12 Conference play for the Cowgirls this season as they improved to 1-2-2 in the league and 8-6-2 overall. Friday's match also marked OSU's fourth consecutive shutout and third-straight win.
Â
Allie Stephenson scored the lone goal in the contest, delivering a 17-yard blast following a corner kick in the 68th minute, to give OSU only its third-ever win in Ames (now 3-7-1 all time).
Â
"(Stephenson) has a knack for being in the right place on those – when a corner pops out, she does a great job finishing them," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "She had a really nice game so that kind of just capped it off for her."
Â
OSU dominated possession and the attack throughout, outshooting the Cyclones by a 24-13 margin and owning a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. ISU goalie Lindsey Hendon kept the home team in the match with nine saves.
Â
Michela Ongaro notched a pair of saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season, with two of those coming in Big 12 play.
Â
OSU returns to action Friday night when the Cowgirls host No. 2 West Virginia.
