Maddi Swaney, the 2016 WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year, is in her fifth season as the assistant coach of the Cowgirl golf program.

Swaney spent eight seasons as the assistant coach at Kent State, including the last six under Greg Robertson, where she was a part of three NCAA Championship appearances, eight NCAA Regional bids, 30 tournament victories and 27 individual medalists.

In all, she has recruited and coached five All-Americans, eight conference golfers of the year, four freshmen of the year, 26 first team all-conference honorees and 25 conference all-tournament team members. She has also coached 11 different players to 29 individual titles in her career.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to have Maddi at Oklahoma State," Robertson said. "She's one of the best coaches in the country and one of the hardest working individuals I know. I'm looking forward to winning championships with her here in Stillwater."

In her first season at OSU, Swaney helped Isabella Fierro blossom into an All-American. Just a freshman in 2019-20, Fierro posted the second lowest single-season stroke average in school history and won the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in record-breaking fashion.

The accolades hardly stopped there. Swaney saw three Cowgirls earn WGCA All-American Scholar honors and five OSU players notch a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 team. Three Cowgirls have won an individual event title in Swaney's short time at OSU, and the Cowgirls were victorious in their first team event under Swaney and Robertson - the Trinity Forest Invitational.

In all, Swaney has helped lead OSU to 11 tournament wins, two Big 12 Championships and the program’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship match play finals.

Swaney was instrumental in Kent State's recent success. The Golden Flashes entered the 2019 NCAA Championships ranked No. 5 in the GolfStat national rankings after taking home their first regional title, sweeping the NCAA East Lansing Regional with a 4-under 860. Four of the five All-MAC First Team selections went to Kent State golfers in 2019.

She helped Kent State advance to the NCAA Championships in each of his last three seasons, with match play appearances at Rich Harvest Farms in 2017 and Karsten Creek in 2018. In fact, Kent State earned program-best fifth-place finishes in 2017 and 2018. They also set the school record for wins in a season three times, lowered the team scoring average to a program-best 288.15 in 2019 and posted the lowest individual and team scores in MAC history.

Just as impressive in the classroom, Swaney coached 13 WGCA All-American Scholars and 18 Academic All-MAC selections, and her Kent State squads earned multiple NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The team's GPA of 3.71 in the fall of 2016 was the highest in program history.

"I am excited to be continuing my coaching career with coach Robertson at Oklahoma State, who I've enjoyed working with," Swaney said. "The tradition of the Oklahoma State golf program is second to none and I'm looking forward to building on the championship culture. Go Pokes!"

Respected across the industry, Swaney served on the Women's Golf Coaches Association Board of Directors as the Assistant Coach Representative from 2017-19.

Prior to serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Swaney was a tournament coordinator for the IMG Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla. In 2011. She also worked with the American Junior Golf Association, serving as a tournament operations intern.

As a four-year letterwinner with the Golden Flashes, Swaney had a career scoring average of 78.7, which ranked ninth in team history upon her graduation. Her best finishes for Kent State were a trio of fourth-place efforts at the MAC Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She twice earned second-team all-MAC accolades in 2008 and 2009.

In the classroom, Swaney was a three-time All-America Scholar as selected by the NGCA and was also a three-time Academic All-MAC selection.

A native of Marietta, Ohio, Swaney graduated from Kent State magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in marketing and received her M.A. in Sport and Recreation Management in December of 2016. She graduated from the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in December 2013. She has also received her TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level One Certification in March, 2017.
