Cowboy Basketball books exhibition matchups with Auburn, SMU

STILLWATER – There will be no easing into the season for the Oklahoma State men's basketball team, with an exhibition slate that features a Final Four opponent and a rematch from last year's postseason run.

The Cowboys will meet defending SEC champion Auburn on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in Birmingham, Ala. before traveling to Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 25 to take on an SMU team that it defeated in the second round of the NIT.

The OSU-Auburn game, which tips at 7 p.m. CT, is part of a weeklong showcase series at Boutwell Auditorium that also features Alabama vs. Florida State and Samford vs. Alabama A&M. Tickets are available at ballininboutwell.com.

The Cowboys and Tigers have split four all-time meetings, most notably in the second round of the 1999 NCAA tournament and most recently in the 2016 Big 12/SEC Challenge when OSU won in Auburn. OSU has played four times previously in Birmingham, the last in December 2011 against Alabama, but this will mark its first appearance at the 101-year-old Boutwell.

The OSU-SMU matchup will be the teams' third in 12 months. The Cowboys beat the Mustangs 89-78 in Stillwater last October and 85-83 in Dallas to earn a spot in the NIT quarterfinals. Start time will be announced in mid-October.

Second-year head coach Steve Lutz is looking to build on that 2025 postseason push with help from the Big 12's top transfer portal class, per On3 and Hoops HQ.

Oklahoma State opens the regular season with six home games in the first three weeks, beginning with Oral Roberts (Nov. 4) and Texas A&M (Nov. 9).
