Lutz lands first spring recruit

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz added a talented playmaker to next year's Cowboy Basketball backcourt with the signing of Kanye Clary.
The 5-foot-11 guard was slated for a major role at Mississippi State before suffering a season-ending injury in late November. Prior to it, he was one of the Big Ten's most explosive scorers, averaging nearly 17 points per game as a sophomore at Penn State.
Lutz said:
"Kanye is a fast point guard who will fit seamlessly into our up-tempo offense. He has performed at a high level over the course of his career. While his 2024-25 season was, unfortunately, cut short by a leg injury, he's full-go now and ready to be a playmaker for our team. I couldn't be more excited to welcome him to Stillwater and Cowboy Nation!"
Before his injury, Clary averaged 6.3 points in 19.0 minutes while helping the Mississippi State to a 6-1 start. He scored a season-high 12 points on 8-of-9 free throw shooting against Southeastern Louisiana and produced an efficient 11 points and six assists without missing a shot (4-of-4 FG, 3-for-3 FT) in a win over Georgia State.
As a sophomore at Penn State in 2023-24, Clary started 20 games and ranked eighth on the Big Ten scoring chart at 16.7 points, while shooting 38% from three and 81% at the foul line. He topped the 20-point mark 10 times, highlighted by career-bests against Rider (29) and Butler (28). He also produced standout stat-lines against Big Ten rivals Maryland (25), Michigan State (21), Northwestern (25) and 11th-ranked Wisconsin (27).
As a freshman, Clary averaged 3.7 points across 32 appearances for a Nittany Lion team that finished runner-up in the Big Ten tournament and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Clary was a four-year captain, three-time team MVP and 2,000-point scorer during his prep career, which began at hometown Princess Anne High School. He was a two-time first team all-district and All-Region 5A selection, averaging 21.5 points, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals as a junior.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native and former four-star recruit transferred to Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va. for his senior year and helped the school reach the semifinals of the 2022 National Prep Championship while earning all-tournament honors.
Clary is the Cowboys' first official spring addition, joining a recruiting class that already includes a pair of fall signees: 6-foot-10 forward Mekhi Ragland (Sunrise Christian Academy) and 6-foot-5 sharp-shooter Ryan Crotty (Miller School).
