Daton Fix Faces Familiar Foe for U.S. Senior National Team Spot
June 09, 2023 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestler Daton Fix is set to take on Austin DeSanto Saturday in a true third-place match for the No. 3 spot at 61 kg on the 2023-24 United States Senior National Team. The contest will take place prior to Session I of Final X in Newark, N.J., at the Prudential Center.
With a top-three spot on the Senior National Team, Saturday's victor will receive benefits that include access to international tours and National Team training camps.
Although Fix has never wrestled DeSanto in freestyle, the two faced each other three times in collegiate competition. As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Fix defeated third-ranked DeSanto, 2-0, in their first meeting. Fix would go on to beat DeSanto again, 3-2, in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships in 2021 before doing so a third time at the 2022 Bout at the Ballpark.
Fix, a silver medalist at the 2021 Senior World Championships, came up just short of returning to Final X after falling to Nashton Garrett in the finals at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge in May. DeSanto, who was the top seed at the challenge, also dropped his match to Garrett in the semifinal round.
Additionally, former Cowboy Alex Dieringer will face David McFadden in the 79 kg true third-place match. Dieringer competed at Oklahoma State from 2011 to 2016, winning three national titles and compiling a 133-4 overall record throughout his time in Stillwater.
The National Team true third-place matches will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT. Results and live streams for both the true third-place matches and Final X can be found on Flowrestling.org.
