Golden Breaks Fourth Program Record in Heptathlon, OSU off to Hot Start at Jim Click Shootout
April 07, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
TUCSON, Ariz. – Bailey Golden highlighted an impressive showcase from Oklahoma State's track & field teams, as she took home the individual victory in the Heptathlon as OSU capped off day one of the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday.
Golden, one of three Cowgirl Multis competing, secured her victory by scoring the NCAA's second-highest Heptathlon point total of the young outdoor season with 5,805 points. She surpassed her own school record set in last year's Big 12 Championship, defeating second-place finisher, Kansas State's Urte Bacianskaite, by over 100 points en route to etching her name atop her fourth OSU record across indoors and outdoors.
At the end of day one on Thursday, Golden led the field of highly-talented multi-event athletes by 50 points and built on that lead with strong performances in the final three events, which included a pair of event victories in the Javelin Throw and the Long Jump. In total, Golden landed in the top-five spots in five events overall. She set outdoor personal-best marks in the High Jump (1.77 Meters), 200 Meter Dash (25.18), 800 Meter Run (2:24.49) and the Javelin Throw (44.89 Meters).
She moves into fourth on OSU's leaderboard in the High Jump and the Javelin Throw with her respective marks.
For the second consecutive year at the Jim Click Invitational, Olivija Vaitaityte reached the podium, finishing in third place with 5,520 points. Vaitaityte picked up the event victory in the 800 Meters with a 2:15.35 finish, which is a new collegiate best. Like Golden, Vaitaityte appeared in the top five spots in five events.
Annie Molenhouse didn't disappoint in her first Heptathlon as a Cowgirl, scoring 4,878 points. After steady performances in each event, her finish is good enough for the fifth-best point total in OSU history, while setting three personal records in the process.
Philip Frank represented OSU in his first full Decathlon in the orange and black, resulting in a score of 6,476 points through nine events. Due to an injury, he was unable to finish the final 1,500 Meter event.
Frank consistently scored high marks in each event, including a second-place finish in the 200 Meters, the first event on Thursday. He finished sixth or better in each of the first seven events. He reached personal bests in the Javelin Throw and the 100 Meters Dash, while reaching the top 10 of OSU's leaderboard in the Javelin.
Jim Click, the namesake for the Jim Click Shootout, is an OSU alumnus and former football player from 1962-66. After graduating from OSU as a Scholastic All-American, Click opened several car dealerships, both in California and Arizona. He settled in Arizona, where he was a philanthropist in the Tucson area and became a supporter of The University of Arizona. OSU athletes have had impressive performances at the invitational and can now tack on a school record-breaking performance to the invitational's legacy.
Cowboy and Cowgirl sprinters and field athletes will now prepare for the final day of the event on Saturday, with several athletes making their season debuts.
