Cowboys Handle Wichita State, 5-2, in Outdoor Return

STILLWATER, Okla. — In its first home outdoor match of the spring season, the No. 29 Oklahoma State men's tennis team defeated Wichita State, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys now carry a 9-3 record after winning four of their last five matches.
Doubles play opened with the Shockers on top as Orel Ovil and Misha Kvantaliani knocked off Chase Ferguson and Alex Garcia, 6-0, on court two. Leighton Allen and Carl Roothman fired back for OSU with a 6-3 victory over Alejandro Jacome and Richey King on court three.
In a tightly-contested court one battle, Isaac Becroft and Tyler Zink fell versus Kristof Minarik and Alex Richards, 7-5, handing Wichita State the doubles point.
Zink got his redemption to start off singles, ousting Minarik, 6-2, 6-2, to knot the match 1-1.
Becroft also got in the groove in singles action, defeating Orel Ovil, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Cowboys the lead.
With Friday's result, Becroft remains a perfect 7-0 in singles play this season.
Allen extended the OSU lead to 3-1 on court five, defeating Richards, 6-3, 6-3.
Luke Bracks took down Roothman on court six, 7-5, 7-5, to provide the Shockers' second match point.
Following a 6-4 first-set victory and a second set tiebreaker loss, 7-6 (4), Garcia notched the Pokes the match-clinching point, defeating Jacome, 6-1, in the third set.
Ferguson capped the night off for OSU, defeating Kvantaliani, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
Oklahoma State will take a one-day break before continuing its home stand on Sunday versus SMU at 1 p.m. (CST.)
