OSU Softball Run-Rules Memphis In Day One of Memphis Tournament
March 10, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Morgan Day and Tatum Clopton teamed up to hold the Memphis Tigers scoreless in a 10-0 run-rule victory for the No. 10 Oklahoma State softball team in Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday. The game was called after the fifth inning.
The win was OSU's 10th in its last 11 games and improved the Cowgirls to 15-5 on the season.
Day carried a perfect game into the fourth inning and got the win, rising to 4-1. Day tallied eight strikeouts in four innings pitched. Memphis, a team with five players batting .300+, had only one hit on the day.
"She came out pounding the strike zone," Head Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I don't know that we could ask for a whole lot more from her. When you can keep the other team off base, the game just flies."
A barrage of 12 hits helped the Cowgirls score 10 runs in five innings. Nine Cowgirls found themselves in the hit column in the contest.
"The last few days, we've just hit balls harder than we've hit balls the whole year," Gajewski said.
Morgyn Wynne had a pinch hit home run in the top of the fifth, immediately followed by a Sydney Pennington homer. It was Pennington's third homer in as many games.
Hayley Busby hit a three-run home run in the top of the third, which sparked five more runs from the Cowgirls.
Looking ahead, OSU faces Central Arkansas at 2 p.m. CT tomorrow in the second game of the Memphis tournament.
