July 26, 2021 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team is proud to announce the addition of Boys' 18 National Clay Court champion and Blue-Chip recruit, Leighton Allen, as announced today by head coach Dustin Taylor.
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Leighton Allen to the Cowboy family! Leighton conquered every level throughout his junior career, finishing his Boys' 18 campaign as the No. 2 player in the country, and we believe he will do just that at the collegiate level," Taylor said.
"Under the tutelage of Scott McCain, one of the best private coaches our country has to offer, we know we are getting a very technically and tactically sound player, who has shown his mental toughness most recently by winning the National Clay Court Championships in his final year of juniors. We can't wait for his arrival here in Stillwater knowing that the fans and community will love what this blue-collar, high character young man will be bringing to the program."
A product of Laurel Springs High School, Allen was listed as a blue-chip recruit and ranked among the top of his class dating back to 2014. In 2019, Leighton qualified for the U.S. Open Junior Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., and finished No. 2 in the year-end United States Tennis Association Boys' 18 national singles rankings.
Allen has four ITF Junior Circuit titles to his name, and along with his Gold Ball from the National Clay Court Championships, he won back-to-back Bronze Balls at the USTA National Winter Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Allen will arrive in Stillwater after spending his freshman season at the University of Texas last season. The Austin, Texas native posted a 4-0 singles mark last spring and a 4-4 record in doubles action while representing the Longhorns. During the fall campaign, Allen reached the finals of the ITA Texas Regional.
