Cowgirls Headed to Super Regionals After Run-Rule Victory

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State softball improved its record to 45-9 on the season and punched its ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals with a 10-2 run-rule victory against Mississippi State.
Carrie Eberle got the nod in the circle for the Cowgirls, throwing all five innings in the run-rule win while striking out eight Bulldogs on the day. Eberle picked up her 23rd win of the season, allowing just two earned runs in the regional-clinching matchup.
Sydney Pennington made history in Sunday's game, becoming the Oklahoma State softball career home run leader after launching the 36th of her career. The previous record of 35 was held by Tiffany Mikkelson, who played for OSU from 2013-16.
Oklahoma State's bats stayed hot in the final game of the regional, scoring 10 runs on 11 hits and launching three home runs.
Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the bottom of the first. Oklahoma State answered by scoring in the next three innings, including four runs in the second and five runs in the third. The Cowgirls held the Bulldogs scoreless after the second inning.
The Cowgirls were led offensively by Alysen Febrey (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Hayley Busby (2-for-3, 4 RBI), and Reagan Wright (2-for-3, 2 RBI) who all contributed multiple hits on the day.
Oklahoma State advances to the Super Regionals for the third time in program history and the second time in the Kenny Gajewski era.
Sunday's win marked the 45th of the season, which is tied for the most wins in the Gajewski-era.
