Show Signs With Scrap Yard Fast Pitch
June 04, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball alum Samantha Show is set to begin her professional playing career this summer after signing with Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, an independent professional team based in Conroe, Texas, on Monday.
Show has become recognized nationwide as 'The Queen of Bat Flips' in 2019 after her fiery flip-based celebrations, most notably doing so with a thunderous bat flip at the Women's College World Series last week after she hit her second home run off Florida ace Kelly Barnhill to seal the Cowgirls' first WCWS victory since 1998.
Her second home run off Barnhill made her just the second pitcher to hit two home run in a World Series game, the other being UCLA's Megan Langenfeld in 2010.
"While some say Sam is polarizing, I was impressed by how she ignored the critics and just played the game, especially in the WCWS where her performance silenced a lot of the critics," SYFP general manager Connie May said in the team's announcement. "I guess it's kind of hard to talk with your jaw dropped open. Sam has been passionate since she was a young athlete growing up in the Houston area. She will bring a level of versatility to our team and keep fans on the edge of their seats wanting see more of the greatest Show on earth!"
In 2019, Show capped her collegiate career by leading the Pokes back to the World Series for the first time since 2011 and was named an NFCA Third Team All-American for the first time in her career.
Show was dominant both at the plate and in the circle. As a batter, she set OSU single-season records for total bases (134) and home runs (20). The powerful producer also led the Cowgirls with 62 hits, 56 runs batted in and her 32 extra-base hits was the top mark on the team.
The right-handed hurler was also a force to be reckoned with in the circle this past season, as she led Oklahoma State in earned run average (2.34), innings pitched (200.1), strikeouts (118), starts (33), complete games (21), shutouts (6), wins (22) and opponent batting average (.225). She led the line for OSU in its biggest moments of the season, as Show threw 101.1 of a possible 138 innings for the Cowgirls when facing top-15 opponents.
Show helped Oklahoma State go 11-9 in those matchups, which includes two wins over No. 4 Florida State and a heroic performance against No. 8 Florida in OSU's WCWS opener.
She also posted three shutouts against ranked opponents in 2019, holding No. 13 Arizona State, No. 24 Oregon and No. 9 Texas off the board at varying points of the season.
Show ends her collegiate career as a three-time NFCA First Team All-Region selection, twice earning the honor while at Texas A&M and then doing so again in her lone season as a Cowgirl.
"I'm super excited to join Scrap Yard Fast Pitch," Show said to SYFP. "I'll be back together with some old teammates and girls I've played against for the majority of my life. I'm looking forward to playing against the best of the best and competing against players I've looked up to. I can't wait to play with everyone."
Show's signing marks the second-straight year that SYFP has pursued and signed a Cowgirl coached by Kenny Gajewski, as three-time All-American Vanessa Shippy competed for the team last summer.
Show grew up in East Bernard, Texas, which is located roughly 90 miles south of Conroe, where Scrap Yard Fast Pitch is rooted.
