Johnson, Fincham-Dukes Win Outdoor Returns With Top Marks
April 21, 2019 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER—Sinclaire Johnson and Jacob Fincham-Dukes won their respective events, leading the Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field teams to success on Saturday at the Cardinal Classic and the John Jacobs Invitational.
Johnson ran the 1,500 meters at Stanford and posted a time of 4:13.35 at the Cardinal Classic. Her performance puts her at No. 1 in the NCAA in the event and qualifies her for the West Regional. It's the fastest time Johnson has run since the West Regional last year.
Fincham-Dukes also came away victorious at the John Jacobs Invitational. The senior won his outdoor debut with a jump of 7.81m/25-7.5, which also puts him in qualifying position for the regional round of national competition. He is now at No. 13 in the country in the men's long jump and is seventh in the West Region.
Elissa White broke the school record in the women's pole vault. She jumped 3.85m/12-7.5 to take the first spot on OSU's performance list. White's record is the ninth to rewrite the record books since the beginning of 2019.
Schuyler Wood-Hilderbrandt set a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.08m/19-11.5. She improved on her previous personal best by five centimeters and moved into a tie for second on OSU's performance list.
Calahan Newsome ran a time of 52.90 in the men's 400-meter hurdles to finish as the runner-up in the event. It's the second time this season Newsome has run under 53 seconds.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls return to action Thursday at the Drake and Penn Relays and Friday at the National Relay Championships.
