Cowgirls Perfect on the Opening Day of Fall Slate

STILLWATER— The Oklahoma State women's tennis team began its fall season with an undefeated outing. Five Cowgirls played in their first fall matches of the season, as Lisa Marie Rioux, Katarina Stresnakova, Sofia Blanco, Marina Guinart and Catherine Gulihur all went 1-0 on the day. The team was split at the Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., and the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wis.
In Malibu, Rioux picked up a pair of straight set wins 6-3, 6-1 over Maja Ornberg of Florida Gulf Coast. She advances to the round of 16 tomorrow to face Evgeniya Levashova of Pepperdine. The Cowgirl paired up with Yuya Ito of the University of Texas for mixed doubles as the top seed. After the duo won its first match, Ito and Rioux defeated Majed Kilani (Tulsa) and Fatima Bizhukova (Wichita State) 6-1.
In Milwaukee, Gulihur made her Cowgirl debut taking down Gabrielle Dekkers of Utah State 6-3, 6-1. The freshman moves on to the round of 32 tomorrow after doubles play to face Samantha Memije of Michigan State.
Stresnakova, Guinart and Blanco notched straight set wins in Milwaukee, as well. Stresnakova defeated Colorado State's Priscilla Palermo 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the round of 32. Guinart took a 6-3, 6-3 match against Maja Pietrowicz of Michigan State, and Sofia Blanco knocked off Karolina Snita of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
The Cowgirls begin doubles play tomorrow at 8 a.m. CST for two rounds before singles start back up immediately after.
