STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis head coach Chris Young has signed five-star Catherine Gulihur to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced on Friday.
Â
"I am excited to have Catherine join our program," Young said. "She is a very gifted player who has big dreams and I believe this is the perfect environment for her to continue her development and I can't wait to get started with her."
Â
A native of Norfolk, Va., Gulihur is ranked as the No. 33 recruit in the country and No. 1 in the state of Virginia, according to TennisRecruiting.net. She graduated from Vicenza High School in Italy last spring and is set to join the Cowgirls this fall.
Â
Gulihur boasts a 4-0 record against fellow five-star recruits and a 4-1 mark against four stars. She is ranked No. 11 by Universal Tennis.
Â
The future Cowgirl took home the DODEA-Europe girls singles championship in November, storming through the prelims and semifinals while dropping only one game before tallying a 6-2, 6-0 win in the finals. For her efforts, she was given Stars and Stripes girls tennis Athlete of the Year award.
Â
Most recently, Gulihur won five of six matches at the USTA National Selection Tournament earlier this month in Edmond, Okla., to finish third.
Â
"I chose Oklahoma State because of the incredible opportunities that I believe are waiting for me there," Gulihar said. "I feel as if the resources and coaching & training staff will give me a chance to develop my true potential. It's an environment that values hard work and dedication, and I couldn't be more excited to attend OSU."
