FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Oklahoma State track and field program earned four event titles in its first of four trips to Fayetteville this season at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Â
"I think it was a pretty good day," head coach Dave Smith said. "For a rust-buster for a lot of these athletes, we had some great performances."
Â
Senior Cowboy Luis Martinez had the race of the day for the Pokes when he took first in the men's 1,500-meter invitational in 3:45.93. Martinez missed the meet record by five-hundredths of a second, set by former Cowboy Tom Farrell in 2011.
Â
"It was a great race," Smith said. "He did a heck of a job."
Â
Latriceia Smith took home gold for the Cowgirls in the women's 800 meters, clocking in at 2:15.55. Smith ran a blazing 66-second 400 meters in the latter half of the race, edging out Caraline Slattery from Kansas.
Â
Two hours later, Sinclaire Johnson out-kicked the competition in the women's 800-meter invitational section, earning first in 2:09.55. Johnson's mark currently sits as the No. 11 outdoor time in the NCAA in 2018.
Â
The final event win for Dave Smith's squads came in the women's 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Nicolette Dixon, Danielle Coleman, Stephanie Ferrante and Amira Coleman ran an impressive 3:42.08, which was fast enough for No. 4 on the OSU all-time performers' list.
Â
Junior Wesley Hallof became the school record holder in the men's javelin with his throw of 53.94m/177-0, edging out Jason Isaacson's mark set in 1991.
Â
Zach Andrew launched into the OSU record books as the only OSU competitor on day one of the meet. His mark of 50.81m/166-8 was good enough for No. 2 in outdoor school history, with the top mark set by Nick Miller at the Big 12 Championships in 2016.
Â
Togher, Ireland native Emily Rogers inched her way up the school's outdoor performers list with her third-place finish in the women's high jump. Her mark of 1.65m/5-5 is her best in a Cowgirl uniform and slots her in a three-way tie for seventh in school history.
Â
Texas-transfer Blake Scott made waves in his outdoor debut for the Cowboys, placing third in the men's pole vault with his height of 4.80m/15-9. Scott's mark earns him eighth on the OSU outdoor all-time list.
Â
In the women's 200m, sprinter Megan Harris continued to impress as she finished in 24.72 seconds, earning her the No. 9 time in outdoor Cowgirl history.
Â
Next up for the Pokes is a packed weekend, as the squads will split to Tulsa, Texas and California in search of regional qualifying marks.
Â
"When we go to those places, the reason is to find competition and get in situations where we can get qualifying marks for sure," Smith said.
