MEET RESULTS
Â
MANHATTAN, KS — Oklahoma State track and field took home five event titles in its trip to the fourth-annual DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Ahearn Field House on Friday and Saturday.
Â
Middle distance continues to be a staple of Dave Smith's track squads, as the Pokes swept the 600-yard titles for the second-consecutive year. The Cowgirls went 1-2-3 behind junior Amira Coleman, senior Ambra Wesley and true freshman Nicolette Dixon.
Â
The Cowboys followed suit, going 1-2-3-4 in the men's 600-yard run thanks to senior Brandon Singleton, junior Tanner Green, senior Tyler Jackson and freshman Calahan Newsome.
Â
"It was good to get some additional competition for the younger athletes," assistant coach Josh Langley said. "We saw a couple of breakthroughs in technical events and on the track, it was good to see them get in a race and compete hard."
Â
Sophomore Elliett Kulkin continued her legacy as one of OSU's all-time best female pole vaulters, clearing a height of 3.70m/12-1.50 to take first overall on Friday. Her height is a season-high mark for the Cowgirls in the event.
Â
OSU's fourth and fifth event titles came by way of the women's 60m and 3,000m. In the women's 60-meter dash, Lexie Lewis and Kira White went 1-2 in 7.74 and 7.76, respectively. Grace Baker took home the title in the 3,000m for the Cowgirls.
Â
Freshman Torrey Hickel also found himself in the OSU indoor record books. His throw of 16.36m/53-8.25 puts him in a tie for seventh all-time in the men's shot put, albeit taking third overall in the event.
Â
Newcomer Zach Andrew also recorded a personal best in the men's weight throw with his second-place mark of 15.87m/52-1.
Â
"We had a good weekend in the throws," Langley said. "Torrey and Zach both had personal bests and also had a very consistent series in their respective events. That's a good indication that some bigger throws are on the way."
Â
Next up for the Pokes is the busiest weekend of the indoor season that will send the groups across the country to four separate meets – the Husky Classic, Iowa State Classic, Don Kirby Elite Invitational and Tyson Invitational.
Â
"Next week is when we line up in our main events and go after our national qualifying marks at meets across the country," Langley said.
