OSU Track and Field Combines for Six Victories in Season Opener

LAWRENCE, Kansas—The Oklahoma State women's track and field team claimed five individual titles and the men's track and field squad grabbed one victory at the Bob Timmons Challenge on Friday to start their indoor seasons.
Baylor Nelson threw for a personal best to win the women's weight throw. Her toss that traveled 15.81 meters beat her previous personal best by .06 meters.
Natalie Manders added a second throwing victory for the Cowgirls, winning the women's shot put with a throw of 13.17 meters. The mark set her personal best in the shot put by .07 meters.
The Cowgirls earned two victories in jumping events. Schuyler Wood-Hilderbrandt won the long jump with a mark of 5.91 meters. Ryan Roane won the women's triple jump with a jump of 11.93 meters. She also added a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.51 meters.
Rilee Rigdon won her Cowgirl debut. The true freshman crossed the line first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:57.24. Amanda Mayoral took third in her OSU debut. She ran 1,000 meters in 3:07.43.
On the men's side, Garrett Calhoun passed teammate Isaiah Priddey on the final straightaway of the 1,000 meters. He finished in 2:31.01 and Priddey opened his OSU career with a runner-up finish and a time of 2:31.65.
Juan Diego Castro and a group of freshman sprinters impressed in the 600-yards with five top-10 finishes. Castro finished third in 1:12.43. The group of Lakyron Mays, Ashton Hicks, Justin Long and Kobe Christiansen took the top four spots of heat No. 4. Mays was the first of those four sprinters. He completed the race in 1:13.26.
Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Dave Smith said that overall he was happy with his team's performance.
"I think they did really well for the first meet of the year," Smith said. "It was nice to get out there and break the ice. I saw some people competing hard. We had some PRs and good starts."
