October 29, 2018 | Cowboy Golf
ATLANTA – Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland earned his second individual title of the fall season on Monday, taking medalist honors at the East Lake Cup at Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club.
After sharing medalist honors with teammate Matthew Wolff in OSU's last outing at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, Hovland posted a 4-under 68 at the par-72, 7,430-yard layout to finish a shot clear of Alex Smalley and Chandler Eaton, both of Duke.
The Blue Devils took the top spot in the team race, finishing at 3-under 285. The Cowboys will be the No. 2 seed for the match play portion of the event after carding a 287 team total. Tomorrow, OSU will face Alabama in a rematch of last year's NCAA title match, while Duke will face off with Auburn in the other semifinal.
After opening his day with a pair of pars, Hovland followed with birdies at Nos. 3, 4 and 6. His lone bogey of the day came at the seventh. The junior turned in 2-under 34. Hovland's back nine consisted of eight pars and an eagle at the par-5 14th.
Sophomore Austin Eckroat tied for fourth place with a 71, while Wolff also finished in the top 10. The sophomore finished alone in eighth place after carding a 73.
Senior Zach Bauchou posted a 75 to tie for 13th place, while senior Hayden Wood's 76 tied him for 16th place.
The Cowboys will begin play tomorrow at 12:45 p.m. (EST). Golf Channel will begin its live coverage at 3 p.m. (EST).
