Oklahoma State Postgame Quotes
No. 14 Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State – January 23, 2018
HEAD COACH MIKE BOYNTON
Opening Statement …
"First off, I am pretty proud of my team for continuing to grow in these situations. Obviously, not the outcome we wanted, we have to find a way to start winning these games. We get a lot of opportunities in the Big 12. Coming into the end of the year, you have to have some results to show for it. At the same time, a lot of credit to Texas Tech, to Coach Beard and to their staff for even when they got down they never wilted. They showed the resolve and resilience that he has coached them to have. You can see that they are a really tough group. They will be a tough out for everybody who comes in here. They are ranked number 14 in the country for a reason. They have a lot of really good players and a really well-coached team."
On when he felt the game turned in favor of Texas Tech …
"First thing that jumps out to me on the stat sheet is 20 turnovers. Offense got stagnant there. They pressured us a bit more in the second half. As a result, we didn't play well enough on the offensive end to keep the pressure on them. A couple of turnovers led to easy baskets. Then, it got loose for a few three's. There you go, it goes for a 15-point game to a five or six-point game pretty quickly. That is nothing in this league."
On the aggressiveness from Keenan Evans in the second half …
"He's a terrific player. Again, I am not surprised that he played well at all. Good players go through things like that for a couple games. At least all the good ones I've ever been around, so I'm not surprised. He is a senior, and he is not going to let that get him down. Those guys took it on the chin a little bit as freshmen. He has helped build this program back up to where it is nationally relevant. For him to have a toughness to overcome some struggles and get back on track isn't a surprise. A lot of credit to him and to their coaching staff for counting to believe in him and giving him opportunities."
On Jarrett Culver's performance …
"He is going to be a really good player in this league for a really long time. He has great length and can shoot the ball really well. A couple of his three's were defensive mistakes and a couple of them he really earned. That is what good players do. I'm really impressed with him to be ready to step up and play as well as he has so far in the best conference in America. He has a bright future."
On adjustments in the second half …
"I think Tech didn't play as well in the first half because we did. I think my team is a good team, and I think we had something to do with that. I wouldn't say Tech just didn't play well and just decided not to show up and try to win. They were on a two-game losing streak. They came in here focused and ready to play, but we did to. We just didn't play well enough for 40 minutes. What I will do is give their staff credit for even though they struggled for two games and didn't play well for 20 minutes to keep those guys in the right frame of mind knowing that there would be a lot of opportunities for them in the second half. I am not going to sit here and act like my team didn't play well enough to make them not play well in the first half I think we had a lot to do with that. Credit to them for coming back and fighting the way they did."
GUARD JEFFREY CARROLL
On Texas Tech's late run in the second half …
'They are a good team. They are ranked 14th in the country so we knew that they were good coming."
On what was key for Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver …
"With the scouting report, we knew his strength was in shooting. He got off tonight."

On the team building a 15-point lead early in the second half …
"I think we did a god job building off of the lead the first half. We played really good basketball, but in this league you have to put together two 20 minute segments. We just didn't do that the last 15 or 16 minutes of the second half. We will watch film and get back to the drawing board. We are still at a good place. We still have a lot of confidence in the group that we have in the locker room, and I'm pretty sure we will be alright."
