Cowgirls Drop Series Finale At Texas A&M
April 09, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas ---- Oklahoma State softball dropped the series finale 7-0 to No. 5 Texas A&M Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex.Â
Â
Rylee Bayless, who came into the weekend tied for the most walks in the NCAA, finished the day with three.
Â
"I don't take much away from this weekend," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "We didn't play very well. Didn't hit well, or pitch well. We didn't play good defense. When you have those kind of outings there result is pretty typical. We just have to find a way to bounce back."
Â
Oklahoma State (25-15) fell behind early as the Aggies scored one in the first and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Â
The Cowgirls had an early scoring chance in the top of the third when Maddi Holcomb and Bayless drew back-to-back walks with one out. A&M avoided giving up a run with an inning-ending double play the next at bat.Â
Â
Texas A&M (35-3) extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth with a run courtesy of a single up the middle to take a 5-0 lead after four. The Aggies added another in the fifth with two outs to take a 6-0 lead.Â
Â
The Aggies added one more in the sixth to take the 7-0 lead it wouldn't surrender.
Â
Alex Edinger's single up the middle in the top of the fourth was the lone hit of the day for the Cowgirls. Edinger finished 1-for-3.
Â
Logan Simunek (5-2) took the loss for the Cowgirls in the circle in her fourth career start and first since March 12. Simunek went 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits with six walks.Â
Â
The result was the 13th time this year A&M has held an opponent scoreless.
Â
The loss marked the first time since a May 22, 2016, game against Georgia that the Cowgirls were shutout.
