Cowgirls Drop Close One To Tulsa
April 05, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER, Okla. ----- Vanessa Shippy's two-run home run and milestone walk weren't enough as Oklahoma State softball dropped a 3-2 game to Tulsa on Wednesday at Cowgirl Stadium. With her walk in the sixth inning, Shippy became the second Cowgirl in program history with 100 or more in her career.
Â
The loss snapped a season high six-game winning streak for OSU.
Â
"Obviously when you strikeout 17 times it's hard to win any game," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I thought when we got that home run there in the first, I thought that was going to be enough. You just don't get a chance to score runs off her often and we just didn't do enough. We've got to put this one behind us and move forward."
Â
Oklahoma State (25-12 Overall, 6-0 Big 12) didn't panic when Tulsa took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Instead, a Taylor Lynch single led to the eventual two-run Shippy blast to give OSU a 2-1 lead after one.Â
Â
The Hurricane (26-11, 5-1) regained the lead in the top of the second thanks to a two-run RBI double to give Tulsa the 3-2 lead it wouldn't give up.
Â
Lynch and Shippy were the lone Cowgirls to record hits. Â Lynch finished 1-for-3, while Shippy was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Â
Shea Coats (5-5) took the loss for Oklahoma State going two innings allowing six hits and three runs. Christina Biggerstaff came on in relief and shut Tulsa down the remaining five innings. Biggerstaff allowed just four hits and no runs.Â
Â
Tulsa's Emily Watson (19-3) was the story of the night. She struck out a career-high 17 batters while allowing just two hits and two runs on her way to a complete-game shutout.

Up Next: Oklahoma State returns to action this weekend for a three-game set against Texas A&M starting 6:30 p.m. Friday in College Station, Texas. Fans can catch the first game and series finale on the SEC Network Plus. Â
