Cowgirls Open Up Series With Walk Off Over Tech
April 22, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER, Okla. ---- Oklahoma State softball's Kristin Reasnor blasted a walk-off single to right to give the Cowgirls a 2-1 win over Texas Tech Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium. With the win, the Cowgirls reached the 30-win mark for the 27th time in program history. Oklahoma State is now 9-1 in Big 12 play, its most conference wins since 2010.Â
Â
With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh and one out, facing a 1-0 count with bases loaded Reasnor singled to shallow right to give OSU its third walk-off win of the year and its second consecutive at Cowgirl Stadium.Â
Â
"Very well played game," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. Â "I thought that Brandi was absolutely outstanding after that first kid hit. She really got locked in. Just a lot better approach as the day went. I thought our hitters really adjusted to what their pitcher was trying to do. We got some big hits there late, and that was the difference in the very end."
Â
Oklahoma State (30-17 Overall, 9-1 Big 12) fell behind early after Kierra Miles sent the second pitch of the game over the wall in left to give Tech a 1-0 lead after one.
Â
Both teams held each other scoreless the next four innings until the top of the fifth when the Cowgirl bats came alive. Rylee Bayless started things off with a single up the middle. Taylor Lynch followed by extending her hitting streak to seven games with an RBI double to center to score Bayless and tie the game at 1-1.
Â
After a scoreless sixth inning for both squads, Oklahoma State came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh looking for its second walk-off victory of the week. Bayless reached on a one-out single to start the rally. Lynch singled to advance Bayless and Tech intentionally walked Vanessa Shippy for the second time in the game loading the bases for Reasnor. Reasnor delivered with the game winning RBI.Â
Â
Lynch finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, Bayless was 2-for-3 and Reasnor went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Â
"It this means a lot," said Lynch of the victory. "I think it shows a lot about our team. I think it shows that we're willing to fight until the very last out of the game. We knew we had it, it was just a timing thing. We were on her the whole game. I think we had better at-bats as the day went on. It's huge. It's always a little fun to do a walk-off win."
Â
Brandi Needham (17-5) earned the victory in the circle. She went seven innings, allowed just one run on five hits. She finished with six strikeouts.Â
Â
The win today snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Red Raiders. Oklahoma State now has a chance to win 10 Big 12 games for the sixth time in conference history.
