Cowgirls Score Three In Seventh To Pick Up Win

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. ---- Oklahoma State Softball defeated New Mexico State Saturday, 7-4, to conclude the Mary Nutter Classic.Â

Oklahoma State scored three runs in the top of the seventh after New Mexico State tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. Brandi Needham (5-2) earned the win for the Cowgirls.

"Feels good to bounce back from the poor play we had yesterday," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Proud of these kids for fighting. They're tired, been traveling for three-straight weeks. It's taken its toll on us I told them the sign of a good team is finishing this thing off right Now we can finally go home."

New Mexico State got on the board first with a run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma State (8-7) responded with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI hits from Vanessa Shippy and Taylor Lynch to give OSU a 3-1 lead.Â

Both teams traded runs the next couple innings to make it 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.  The Aggies tied it at 4-4 thanks to a home run out to left.

From there the Cowgirls scored three in the top of the seventh thanks to RBI hits from Kristin Reasnor, Randee O'Donnell and Maddi Holcomb to give OSU the 7-4 lead it wouldn't give up.
