Cowgirls Take Season Opener Against Baylor

STILLWATER – The No. 4-ranked Oklahoma State Equestrian team defeated No. 5-ranked Baylor 14-4 on Saturday at Totusek Arena.
The Cowgirls (1-0, 1-0) started off the day with a dominant lead and never looked back. They won Equitation over Fences, 4-1. Kaitlyn Arnold, Carly Barrick, Maggie Drysch and Hannah Janson won their matchups.
Drysch earned a Most Outstanding Performer honor for her 84-76 victory over Baylor's Abby Jorgensen.
The Cowgirls would then go on to win Horsemanship, also with a score of 4-1. Kirsten Chamberland, Libby Collins, Harley Huff and Sarah Mill each earned points for the Cowgirls with Huff earning an MOP honor with her win against Clara Johnson.
On Equitation on the Flat, the Cowgirls would continue their dominance with wins from Mia Bray, Drysch and Kendall Pedigo. Drysch got her second win of the day, and Bray earned MOP honors with her 90-85 victory over Sam Howell.
The Cowgirls also took Reining to sweep Baylor in all four events. Danielle Cohen, Stephanie Helsen and Ebba Lange won their events and took home points for the Cowgirls.
"It's great to get our first competition behind us and have proof that what we've been seeing in practice is what we're actually going to do in the competition," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "The girls have been riding at a very high level, and they definitely showed that off here today."
The Cowgirls are currently 15-0 in home meets against Baylor (1-1, 0-1) and it was their sixth straight home win, dating back to last year. They also hold the series lead over Baylor with an overall record of 21-12 against their conference rival.
The next meet for the Cowgirls will be Oct. 21 on the road against SMU.
