Cowgirls End Season In NCEA Quarterfinals

WACO, Tex. – Oklahoma State was defeated by Texas A&M, 11-5, in the NCEA National Championship Quarterfinals at the Extraco Events Center on Friday.
The loss ends a successful season for the Cowgirls, giving them an 8-6 record on the year.
"I'm very proud of our girls and the effort they gave this entire season," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Their attitude going into this championship is something I was very proud of."
The competition started off with Reining, where Erin Willoughby defeated NCEA First Team Reining All-American Hannah Jechow, 142.5-138.5. The score was tied for the highest of the day across all competitions in the event.
Julia Purus also earned a point for OSU, topping NCEA Second Team Reining All-American Ashley Dotson, 137-136.
Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year, Ty Paris, was outstanding for the Cowgirls as well, defeating Texas A&M's Logan Pluhar, 154-147.5.
Paris' score was the highest of the day in Horsemanship across all competitions.
In English competition, the Cowgirls Amy White defeated Alex Desiderio, 152-150 in Equitation over Fences and topped Audrey Gallagher, 127-123 in Equitation on the Flat.
Despite the loss today, the Cowgirls are optimistic about what their future holds.
"Where we started and where we are now is a complete 180," Junior Maggie Drysch said. "On the English side, we're only losing one spot. Coming into next year, we'll be starting in a much better place than we did this year."
