Cowgirls Down No. 47 Mustangs, 4-0

STILLWATER – The No. 12 Oklahoma State women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 win over SMU, handing the Mustangs their first loss of the season on Friday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The win gave the Cowgirls (9-2; 0-0 Big 12) their seventh victory over a ranked opponent this season.
“I thought today was exactly what we needed,” coach Chris Young said. “We got out there and took care of business in singles. We weren't on the court very long so that helps us prepare for OU on Sunday.”
OSU put together a dominating performance all day, starting with a decisive doubles point victory.
Playing at the No. 3 spot, Maria Alvarez and Carla Tur Mari won their doubles match over the Anderson/Elliot duo, 6-2. Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic also posted a 6-2 win over Erkeeva and Wright on court two to wrap up doubles play.
In singles, the Cowgirls showed no signs of slowing down, turning in straight-set wins on courts six, one and four, respectively.
Alvarez, competing on court six, gave up only two games during her quick match, winning her first set, 6-2, before shutting out Macie Elliot in the second set, 6-0.
All-American Viktoriya Lushkova gave the team a 3-0 lead with her win on court one over Anna Kate Anderson, 6-3, 6-1.
Clinching the match for the Pokes was Karyn Guttormsen on court four, who downed her opponent, Mary Wright, with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win.
Play on the other courts was not finished.
The Cowgirls return to action on Sunday, taking on in-state rival and 31st-ranked Oklahoma at noon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
