Cowboy Tennis Suffers First Defeat of 2014

The No. 25 Oklahoma State men's tennis team saw its undefeated season come to an end on Sunday in a 4-3 loss to No. 32 Tulsa at the Case Tennis Center.
The Cowboys (10-1) had their school record ten-match winning streak to start the 2014 campaign snapped by the Golden Hurricane, which moved to 8-6 on the year.
OSU fell behind early after Tulsa's 20th-ranked doubles pair of McCloskey/Marsland took down No. 38 Kadhe/Bohrnstedt, 8-5, and Sebastian Sachs and Lucas Gerch fell at the No. 3 spot, 8-3. Jakob Sude and Matt Campbell also were unable to convert in doubles play, taking an 8-4 defeat from #47 De Klerk/Espejo.
The match's momentum quickly shifted after the start of singles play, however, as Oklahoma State seized first set victories at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6. Brady Bohrnstedt and Lucas Gerch each pushed their individual records to 7-0 with wins on courts five and six, as Bohrnstedt took down Dylan McCloskey, 6-3, 6-1, and Gerch topped Daniel Santos, 6-2, 6-3, giving the Cowboys a 2-1 advantage.
Tulsa then reclaimed the lead when nationally-ranked Japie De Klerk handed Sude a straight set defeat at No. 1 singles and No. 74 Clifford Marsland fought back from a set down to overpower Sachs, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Sude's loss was his first of the year in singles play after starting out with an undefeated 5-0 mark.
Chris Haworth gave the Pokes hope after earning a victory over the retired Juan Carvajal, tying the match up at three points a piece. Arjun Kadhe overcame an early deficit to take a 4-2 second set lead, but lost four consecutive games to Tulsa's Alejandro Espejo, sealing the Golden Hurricane upset.
The Cowboys will finish up their eight-match road trip on Thursday with a visit to No. 57 San Diego State, as well as an appearance in San Diego's Pacific Coast Doubles tournament. For more updates and information, follow @CowboyTennis on Twitter.
