Cowgirls At NCEA National Championships, Day One

Cowgirl Hunter Seat Defeats NMSU, 7-1
WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma State equestrian hunter seat team kicked off their national championship campaign with a convincing win over the New Mexico State Aggies, 7-1, at the Extraco Events Center on Thursday.
The Pokes rolled to a victory in equitation on the flat and took a 3-1 lead in to the afternoon equitation over fences session. The Cowgirls earned the first three head-to-head points of the day. Ali Rose had the highest individual score of the day, winning her point, 164-149. Ellie Sparks won, 124-121 and Jordan White added a 151-145 victory. White's win was her 10th of the season in the event, a hunter seat team-high.
The Cowgirls needed just two points to advance, but instead swept equitation over fences, 4-0. OSU earned the two highest scores in the event for the first session, with Samantha Harrison picking up a 170-155 win and Allie Joyce adding a 167-124 triumph. Samantha Elser won, 154-120 and Sarah Gesick finished the day with a 133-108 victory. Oklahoma State's fences raw score 624 was 117 points more than New Mexico State.
Oklahoma State advanced to the quarterfinals with the win, where they will take on the No. 2 seed Georgia Bulldogs. The pair met earlier this year, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 7-5 victory.
The western team will begin their championship campaign when they take on the TCU Horned Frogs tomorrow.
