Cowboy Tennis Upsets No. 57 UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team pulled off the upset of 57th-ranked UNLV in Las Vegas on Friday in a close 4-3 contest.
The Cowboys (3-0) picked up the victory in the final match of the day, with junior Trevor Horstmann getting a hard-fought victory against Willie Sublette to give the Cowboys the decisive point of the dual. Horstmann took a close first set, 7-6 (8). Sublette fought back and took the second set, 6-4, before Horstmann won the decisive set, 6-3.
UNLV (3-4) began the afternoon by winning two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point, despite an 8-4 victory from OSU's 56th-ranked doubles pair of Rifat Biktyakov and Vlad Bondarenko against Brian Kenyon and Bernard Schoeman in the No. 1 doubles spot.
In other singles action, No. 60 Bondarenko remained undefeated on the season by beating Tamas Batyi, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. No. 77 Chris Haworth also kept his record unblemished, defeating Alex Bull, 6-3, 6-3. Eric West picked up a win in the No. 4 spot, outlasting Schoeman, 6-4, 6-1.
Rene Ruegamer beat No. 89 Biktyakov, 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 2 spot, and Brian Kenyon defeated Adolfo Aires at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Cowboys will return to action on Saturday when they take on San Diego State in Las Vegas at 2 p.m.
