STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team picked up its second straight win Tuesday at the DeBois Tennis Complex, rolling to an easy 6-1 win over Seminole State College, ranked No. 1 in the ITA JUCO rankings.
“It was nice to finally play in great weather without a windstorm,” coach James Wadley said. “It was also nice to get the win. They have a good team and a great player at No. 1 singles.”
The Cowboys, now 5-10 on the year, started off the day with a 3-0 sweep in doubles competition.
OSU's 54th-ranked tandem of Maniel Bains and Eric West, playing at No. 1 for the first time, won 8-5, while No. 20 Aleksey Bessonov and Rifat Biktyakov picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 and Vlad Bondarenko and Tomas Patiño won, 9-7, at No. 3.
The one-sidedness continued in singles play as the Cowboys won five matches, all in straight sets, to earn the 6-1 dual victory.
OSU's singles winners included Biktyakov, Bondarenko, Bessonov, West and Ilija Martinoski at Nos. 2-6, respectively, while Seminole State's Mbonisi Ndimande defeated Bains at No. 1 to avoid the shutout.
The Oklahoma State tennis program resumes competition Friday at 11 a.m. as the Cowboys take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the DeBois Tennis Complex. It is the first of two matches hosted by Oklahoma State Friday as the Cowgirls will take on Kansas at the conclusion of the men's match.
