Cowboy Netters Fall to UC Irvine

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 57 Oklahoma State men's tennis team ended a two-match win streak Saturday, falling, 4-2, to UC Irvine at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The match, originally scheduled for 10 a.m., was delayed several hours due to rain, so singles matches were played first in an effort to finish the dual earlier.
The effort was aided by the fact that all six matches ended in straight sets, but the Cowboys fell short as they won two of the six singles contests to give UC Irvine a 4-2 lead and the team win. With the dual already decided, no doubles matches were played.
Cowboy freshman Rifat Biktyakov and junior Eric West picked up wins at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, as West won his second match of the weekend.
Oklahoma State moves to 2-4 on the year while UC Irvine improves to 6-4.
The Cowboys are scheduled to return to action Feb. 25 in a Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma. The dual is scheduled for 6 p.m.at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater, but will be moved the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa if there is inclement weather.
