In the first game of the day, OSU (5-2) fell behind early to LSU (7-1) when Anissa Young hit a two-run home run in the top of the third. They added a third run the next inning as Alex Boulet hit a single down the left field line, stole second and third, and scored when Cowgirl catcher Ashley Boyd caught a Tiger runner stealing second.
Oklahoma State added two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Tamara Brown hit a ball over the left field fence. The score remained 3-2 until the bottom of the sixth. Alysia Hamilton and Julie Ward led off with back-to-back hits. Two batters later, Chelsea Garcia hit a shot over the left fielders head and the Cowgirls claimed the lead 5-3.
Espinosa started for the Cowgirls and improved to 3-0. She threw all seven innings, gave up six hits for three earned runs, struck out four and walked two.
Rachele Fico picked up her first loss for the Tigers and is now 3-1. She threw six innings, allowed seven hits for five earned runs, struck out five and walked one.
In the second game of the day, Houston (4-1) scored one run in the each of the first three innings. Baillie Lott hit a solo home run in the first inning. Holly Anderson reached first on a walk and scored on a Cowgirl error in the second inning. Stesha Brazil led the third inning off with a single, was sacrificed to second, advanced to third on a while pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lott.
OSU didn't put a run on the board until the fourth inning when Alysia Hamilton led the inning off with a solo shot over the right field fence that smashed into the scoreboard. The Cowgirls managed one more run in the sixth when Ari Morrison scored from third on a fielder's choice by Tamara Brown. Oklahoma State failed to score again and lost 3-2.
Freshman Simone Freeman threw the complete game for the Cowgirls and fell to 2-2. She pitched six innings, gave up just two hits for two earned runs, struck out six and walked only one. Donna Bourgeois picked up the win for Houston and improved to 2-1. She threw all seven innings, gave up four hits for two earned runs, struck out four and walked one.
Oklahoma State will play again tomorrow when they face Southern at 9 a.m. and Nicholls State at 11 a.m.
