MELBOURNE, Australia - Former Oklahoma State golf standout Hunter Mahan helped the United States capture its fourth-straight Presidents Cup on Sunday at Royal Melbourne.
Mahan rolled to a 5-and-3 victory over Jason Day to earn his fourth point of the event as part of the Americans' 19-15 victory over the International squad.
The national player of the year in 2003 during his final season with the Cowboys, Mahan was dominant in the event, posting a 4-1 mark, which was the second-best record on the American side. Jim Furyk posted a 5-0 mark for the U.S. squad.
During Thursday's foursomes, Mahan and David Toms won, 6 and 5, over Kyung-tae Kim and Y.E. Yang. Mahan's lone setback came on Friday when he and Toms lost their four-ball match against Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel, 2 and 1.
Saturday's foursome matches once again saw Mahan and Toms paired together and once again saw a convincing win from the duo. The Americans posted a 5-and-4 win over Goosen and Schwartzel.
Mahan picked up his third point of the event on Saturday afternoon, teaming with Bill Haas. The tandem posted a 2-and-1 win in four-ball action over Aaron Baddeley and Jason Day.
