March 27, 2009 | Cowgirl Golf
Athens, Ga. ÂFor the first time in the 37-year history of the event, a complete round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was cancelled on Friday due to inclement weather.
The 18-team field will attempt to begin play tomorrow with 18 holes. The first round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The tournament has also been shortened from 54 to 36 holes.
Rain began at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Friday and continued throughout most of the day. There was a brief break early in the afternoon and it appeared that play might be able to start at 3:00. However, the rain began again soon thereafter and continued until the course was ruled unplayable.
