Stillwater, Okla. (AP) -
Largely a no-show the past two months, Oklahoma State's defense came out of the closet against Baylor.
The Cowboys limited the Bears to an opponent season-low 237 yards en route to a 37-17 Big 12 Conference triumph Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field.
Baylor had two first downs at halftime and four through three quarters. The Bear's offensive production was 66 yards fewer than the previous low by an OSU opponent (Tulsa).
Baylor sandwiched two touchdowns around a Kyle Atteberry field goal. OSU scored 23 straight points after the Bears opened with a Chad Chmeler touchdown catch from quarterback Jeff Watson.
It marked the fewest points allowed by OSU this season in a league game.
A redshirt freshman, Cato grabbed the first interception of his career in the third quarter. The Cowboys also had three sacks and eight tackles for loss.
OSU entered having allowed an average of 424.2 yards per game, the most since 1989. But the Cowboys core is solid. Their leading tacklers this season were Cato and Wright, a freshman from Vian.
Senior David Thompson closed out his OSU career with a 321-yard performance, the second-best rushing day in Cowboy history.
