Cowboys Win Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

PRIMM, Nev. - Oklahoma State sent four wrestlers to the finals of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday and walked away with the title.
OSU dominated the field, which included third-ranked Minnesota and fifth-ranked Illinois. The Cowboys scored 170 points, with the closest competition coming from Illinois, who finished second with 142 points. Minnesota finished third with 123 points.
Oklahoma State's seventh-ranked Mark Mu?oz cruised through the 197-pound class, going 6-0 and racking up a win over fifth-ranked Pat Quirk of Illinois 3-2 in the semifinals. Mu?oz then defeated Turk Lords of Montana State-Northern 8-4 in the finals, improving his record to 14-0 on the season.
Jamill Kelly looked impressive as he fought his way through the field at 141 pounds, only to be decisioned 4-0 by third-ranked Mark Angle of Clarion. Kelly upset fourth-ranked Damion Logan of Michigan 5-3 to reach the finals.
Reggie Wright, OSU's third-ranked 149-pounder, fell to second-ranked Adam Tirapelle 10-2 in the finals.
At heavyweight, Dave Anderton suffered a 7-3 loss to John Lockhart of Illinois in the finals.
Charles Walker lost a heartbreaker in the semifinals at 133 when Fresno State's Paris Ruiz scored a takedown in overtime for the 3-1 decision. He came back to score a consolation finals decision over Rob Loper of Pittsburgh 6-2.
Five remaining Cowboys all placed in the top six, Jeff Ragan finished sixth at 125, Shane Roller placed fifth at 157, Ty Wilcox was fifth at 165, Tony Gansen finished fifth at 174, Pat Popolizio was fifth at 184.
The Cowboys will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 16, when they travel to Eugene, Ore., for a 7:30 p.m. dual with the Oregon Ducks.
