STILLWATER, Okla. -- Joe Adkins and Desmond Mason scored 17 points each to lead the 23rd-ranked Oklahoma State men's basketball team to a 91-63 exhibition victory over Global Sports on Wednesday.
The Cowboys started slowly, trailing 11-3 three and a half minutes into the game, but Adkins scored 12 first-half points to help OSU to a 12-point halftime lead. Oklahoma State put the game away with an 18-6 run early in the second half, Mason scored eight points during that span.
Glendon Alexander tallied 14 times for the Cowboys, and Fredrik Jonzen scored 12 points, four better than his career high. Doug Gottlieb, the nation's assist leader a year ago, had 11 assists Wednesday and scored nine points.
Jeron Roberts recorded game highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Global Sports, which also had Ray Thompson (13 points) and Rodney Odom (10) in double figures.
The Cowboys' 28-point margin of victory was easily the widest margin of defeat for Global Sports, which finished its collegiate tour 5-7. The exhibition team had lost by more than 12 points just one other time, when Auburn defeated it 82-62 Nov. 11. Global Sports had recorded victories over Old Dominion, Alabama, Tulane, Troy State and Texas A&M.
The victory was OSU's 22nd straight in exhibition play.
OSU opens its regular season Friday at 8:40 p.m. when it hosts Appalachian State in the America's Youth Classic. The Cowboys face Idaho on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the Classic's final game.
