Men's Cross Country Finishes Second At Big 12 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State?s men?s cross country team finished second behind four-time conference champion Colorado at the Big 12 Championships here at the Texas A&M Golf Course today.
Senior Chuck Sloan led the Cowboys with a third-place finish. His 24:36 tied OSU?s fifth-best time in 8-kilometer away meets. Colorado?s Ron Roybal won the Big 12 title in 24:23, while Buffalo Jorge Torres finished second in 24:29.
Ben Lake was the second Cowboy to cross the finish line. He placed 14th in 25:25. Bruce Wright wasn?t far behind Lake as he finished in 25:32, good enough for 16th place.
Junior Vasquez rounded out the Cowboys? top-20 finishes as he completed the race in 25:41 to finish 20th.
Staffan Stegmark led the next group of Cowboys as he finished 53rd in 26:37. Jerry Rainey was two runners behind him in 55th-place with a time of 26:39. Gregory Rouault placed 58th in 26:48.
Trey Vernon rounded out the Cowboys? entries at the championships. He finished 63rd with a time of 27:00.
The Cowboys will take a week off to prepare for the District V Championships in Champaign, Ill. OSU is the four-time defending district champion.
