STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's 24th-ranked cross country team was unable to overcome three top-ranked teams and finished fourth at the Cowboy Jamboree here today.
No. 1 Arkansas, No. 2 (NAIA) Adams State and No. 2 (NCAA Division II) Abilene Christian finished the Jamboree Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, at the OSU Cross Country Course.
Senior Chuck Sloan led the Cowboys with a 14th-place finish in a time of 24:51. He still produced his fastest time of the season for an 8-kilometer race so far despite being sick the past week.
Sophomore Bruce Wright, the only other returning letterman from last year's team, was the second Cowboy to cross the finish line. He finished 30th in 25:54.
Junior Vasquez, a sophomore newcomer, finished on the heels of redshirt freshman Ben Lake. Lake finished in 34th-place with a time of 26:04, while Vasquez was No. 36 in 26:08.
Redshirt freshman Trey Vernon wasn't too far behind Vasquez, as he finished the race in 26:40 in 50th. True freshman Gregory Rouault finished 88th in 28:12.
The Cowboys will take a week off before heading to the Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational on Oct. 16 in Fayetteville, Ark.
