Last Time Out
The Oklahoma State men's cross country team earned 24 points and held off Texas and Oklahoma to capture its fifth-straight Big 12 title, and the women's team upset Texas to secure a second-place finish.

The Cowboys took five of the top eight spots on the individual leaderboard, with Girma Mecheso leading the way by finishing in second place with a time of 23:58.1.

The No. 27 Cowgirls earned 81 points and held off No. 14 Texas by six points to grab second place, improving on their third-place finish from a year ago. It was the Cowgirls' best finish at the conference meet since taking second in 2005.

OSU in the Polls
The Cowboys, coming off of winning their fifth-straight Big 12 Championship, once again hold the top national ranking. The Cowboys are trailed in the poll by second-ranked Colorado, No. 3 Stanford, fourth-ranked Iona, and No. 5 Texas.

The Cowgirls advanced six spots to No. 21 in this week's poll after finishing second at the Big 12 Championships last weekend in Austin, Texas. Florida State still leads the pack with the No. 1 ranking, followed by No. 2 Iowa State, third-ranked Oregon, No. 4 Arizona, and fifth-ranked Stanford rounding out the top five.

Regional History
In order for teams to qualify for the national championships, teams must finish in the top two of their region or be selected through an at-large bid.

The Cowboys are looking to qualify for the NCAA National Championships for the 19th time in the last 20 years. They have finished in the top two in the Midwest Region 11 times in the last 13 years and have been selected through an at-large bid once in those 13 years (`99).

The Cowgirls are looking to qualify for the NCAA National Championships for the third-consecutive year. The have finished in second place the last two seasons. Previously, they had not finished in the top two since 2005, where they captured a team championship. They have finished second five times (`88, `89, `04, `10 and `11), and first place twice (`01, `05).

Head coach Dave Smith has been named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year for five-straight years (`06-'11).

From 2012 Big 12 Coach of the Year Dave Smith
On the men
"It's more about getting through injury free, healthy and feeling rested and recovered for the national meet eight days later. We're going to rest a couple guys and run maybe three or four of our top seven. Hopefully we get through to the next round and are ready to go for the national championships.

On the women
"The women are in a real battle to make the national championships. They have to be the top two in the region. We have Iowa State up front who is really good, and it will be awfully tough to beat them. They're ranked No. 2 in the country right now, and I think they might be the best team in the country. Next is us and Minnesota fighting for that second spot. This will be the third year in a row that we've fought with them for that spot. It's been close every year. We've battled down to the last couple 100-meters trying to keep that spot, and we're in the same boat again. The women have to have a good day. They don't need any miracles. We need to run our races and do what we know how to do, and we should advance."
