Jan. 11, 2013

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK- Oklahoma State junior Natalja Piliusina broke the 27-year-old school record in the 1,000-meters this evening in a dual against No. 7 Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Cowgirls fell, 81-61, in the early season meet.

Piliusina finished with a time of 2:46.55, breaking Veronica Haberl's record of 2:47.30 set at the 1986 NCAA National Championships.

"Overall, I was really happy and thought we competed well," said OSU coach Dave Smith. "We had some PRs and it was a good day."

In the mile, Victoria Fratczak set a personal best with a time of 4:58.73, earning her a second-place finish.

Also picking up a first-place finish for the Cowgirls was Kaela Edwards in the 600 meters, coming in at 1:31.52.

In the 3,000 meters, Janelle Martinez captured a first-place finish, crossing the line at 10:07.71.

Clara Nichols (41.21) finished in second place in the 300 meters.

"Natalja breaking the school record was great," said Smith. "Kaela Edwards ran a really great race and won tonight so I really happy with Kaela. I thought Taylor Stolt did really well in the long jump."

Caitlin Way and Chase Ealey led the way for the throwers. Way took the top spot in the weight throw with distance of 16.60m/54-5.50 and Ealey (13.07m/42-10.75) finished in second place.

Ealey then won the shot put for the second-straight meet, registering a distance of 14.69m/48-2.50.

OSU jumpers also did their part as well. In the long jump, Taylor Stolt earned a second-place finish and set a personal best with a jump of 5.65m/18-6.50. In the triple jump, Clara Telford (10.65m/34-11.25) finished in second.

"I thought we did a great job today and I'm really pleased," said Smith.

Both the men's and women's teams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Manhattan, Kan., to compete in the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Kansas State.
