Cowgirl Tennis Heads to Arkansas

STILLWATER, Okla. – Six members of the Oklahoma State women’s tennis team head to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend to compete at the Razorback Classic, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Nataliya Shatkovskaya, Sasha Belova, Iryna Khatsko, Alisa Buslaieva, Alexandra Cristello and Leyla Simmons will compete at the event.

Shatkovskaya and Belova are coming off a doubles title at the Wichita State Invitational, where Shatkovskaya also made the singles final.

“I am excited to watch our girls compete again this weekend,” coach Chris Young said. “Last time out our effort was excellent and the results were good. Hopefully we can build on that this weekend and continue to improve.”

Some of the best talent in the country is competing at the event. In addition to Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Tulsa and Kansas State are sending athletes to compete.

Arkansas finished the 2008-2009 season ranked No. 14 in the final ITA Women’s Team Rankings, while Tulsa was No. 34 in final poll.

The tournament also features some of the top individual talent in the nation, with Arkansas’ Anouk Tigu ranked No. 59 in the ITA singles rankings, while Tulsa’s Alexandra Kichoutkin is ranked No. 118 in the poll. Arkansas and Tulsa have also left their marks in the ITA doubles rankings, with Tigu and Katsiaryna Lukomskaya reaching the No. 39 spot for Arkansas, while Kichoutkin and Rebecca Row are recognized as the No. 45 doubles team for Tulsa.

The Razorback Classic is scheduled to last all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
