WACO, Texas -- The No. 42 Oklahoma State women's tennis team fell Sunday to No. 11 Baylor, dropping its match against the Bears in Waco, Texas, 6-1.
The Cowgirls (10-6, 4-3 Big 12) started play on top after sweeping the Bears (17-5, 4-1 Big 12) in doubles play.
Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah defeated Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic, 8-4, and C.C. Sardinha and Leyla Simmons secured the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Jordaan Sanford and Megan Horter. The most notable win came at the No. 1 spot, where Cowgirls Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana upset the No. 22-ranked tandem of Nina Secerbegovic and Ema Burgic, 8-6.
Baylor responded by sweeping singles play.
Rose and Blevins put up the Cowgirls' biggest fights at Nos. 2 and 3, but it was not enough to stop No. 24 Nina Secerbegovic at No. 2 and No. 46 Sona Novakova at No. 3. No. 120 fell to No. 13 Diana Nakic of Baylor, 6-2, 6-3. Sardinha is now 14-14 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play.
The Cowgirls return to the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater for round two of Bedlam tennis on April 7 at 1 p.m.
