STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team dropped another closely contested match Sunday, as the Cowgirls battled against nearly freezing temperatures at the DeBois Tennis Complex in a 4-3 loss to No. 49 Texas Tech. Due to the weather, singles competition was held first in an effort to shorten the match. After an even 3-3 split in singles, however, the dual had to be decided in doubles competition. The Lady Raiders earned wins at Nos. 6 and 1 singles in the first matches finished before OSU’s C.C. Sardinha, Kanyapat Narattana and Malika Rose stormed back with straight-set wins at Nos. 4, 5 and 3, respectively, to give Oklahoma State a 3-2 advantage. With only one match remaining, OSU would win the dual with a victory at No. 2. But in a three-set battle, Sasha Belova fell to Tech’s Samantha Adams, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, to send the contest into doubles play. After the tough singles competition, the Cowgirls could not rally for the last remaining point as Texas Tech swept doubles play to edge out the 4-3 win.
The OSU women’s squad, now 4-10 (1-3), returns to the courts March 31 as it travels to Colorado to take on the University of Denver. No. 49 Texas Tech 4, Oklahoma State 3 SINGLES DOUBLES Match Notes: |
