STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 41 Oklahoma State women’s tennis team improved its all-time series advantage over Iowa State to 37-0 Saturday afternoon, defeating the Cyclones, 5-2, at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater.
The win was the Cowgirls’ second of the weekend as they also defeated No. 71 Missouri, 6-1, Friday in Stillwater.
“I thought it was a really good win today coming back from yesterday,” coach Chris Young said. “It was the first days we’ve gone back-to-back in a while, so it was a good challenge for the girls to come win a second-straight match. I thought Iowa State played really well and our girls just grinded it out and did what they needed to do to win. I’m really proud of our girls for that.”
Oklahoma State (10-3; 4-1 Big 12) trailed early in all three doubles matches, but came back to sweep the opening session and take a 1-0 lead.
The biggest comeback of doubles play came from the Cowgirls’ No. 3 tandem of Isabela Miro and C.C. Sardinha. The duo fell behind 4-1, but won seven unanswered games against Marie-Christine Chartier and Tessa Lang to win, 8-4, in the first match finished.
Sardinha started singles play the same way she did Friday – with a straight-set win at No. 1 to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.
The Cyclones cut the lead to 2-1 with a point at No. 4. Narattana led the match, 7-5, 0-2, but was forced to retire with an injury.
Rose and Jeremiah then sealed the win with two-set wins at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively.
The Cowgirls added one more team point at No. 3 singles as Blevins held on for super-tiebreaker win. She dropped her first set against Simona Cacciuttolo, 5-7, but came back and outlasted her for the final team point, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9).
Oklahoma State resumes action Tuesday against Tulsa. The Cowgirls will face the Golden Hurricane at 2 p.m. at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater.
