STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 41 Oklahoma State women’s tennis team turned in another big win Friday afternoon as the Cowgirls defeated No. 71 Missouri, 6-1, at the DeBois Tennis Compex in Stillwater.
“I thought it was our best win of the year as far as getting a complete effort by everybody,” coach Chris Young said. “Everyone through the lineup played well and played with confidence. I think as match went on, it went how our season has gone as the girls are just building confidence. I think it was good and I really appreciate the support of the people that came out.”
The Cowgirls (9-3; 3-1 Big 12) have already surpassed last season’s win total and have seven regular-season duals remaining on the schedule.
As has become a staple of OSU’s season, the Cowgirls won the opening doubles point to pick up the early momentum.
The freshman tandem of Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah handled Missouri’s Annemijn Koenen and Rachel Stuhlmann, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot to win the first match finished. Isabela Miro and C.C. Sardinha then took down Alex Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf, 8-5, at No. 3 to seal the team point. MU then claimed their only doubles win at court one, 8-6.
The Cowgirls didn’t give the Tigers any time to think about a comeback once single play got underway. Sardinha, Miro and Blevins all turned in straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 6 and 3, respectively, to take a dual-deciding 4-0 lead.
Malika Rose and Kanyapt Narattana added two more wins, as Rose upset No. 93 Rachel Stuhlmann on court two, 6-3, 7-6(5), and Narattana outlasted Jamie Mera, 6-4, 0-6, 7-5, in the final match finished on court four.
Oklahoma State continues play Saturday, taking on Iowa State at 1 p.m. at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater.
